About the Course

Course Duration: 3 Days (24 Hours)

This 24-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response training course based upon the training requirements of 29 CFR 1920 (q) (6). This standard applies to workers involved in emergency response operations for releases of, or substantial threats of releases of, hazardous substances regardless of the location of the hazard.

PURPOSE OF THIS COURSE Employees who are engaged in responding to hazardous emergency situations at hazardous waste clean- up sites that may expose them to hazardous substances shall be trained in how to respond to such expected emergencies. 29 CFR 120 (q) (6) states that this training shall provide the Hazardous Materials Response Technician with: 1. Knowledge of the basic hazard and risk assessment techniques; 2. Know how to select and use proper personal protective equipment provided to the first responder operational level; 3. An understanding of basic hazardous materials terms; 4. Know how to perform basic control, containment and/or confinement; 5. Operations within the capabilities of the resources and personal protective equipment available with their unit; 6. Know how to implement basic decontamination procedures; 7. An understanding of the relevant standard operating procedures and termination procedures; 8. Know how to implement the employer’s emergency response plan; 9. Know the classification, identification and verification of known and unknown materials by using field survey instruments and equipment; 10. Be able to function within an assigned role in the Incident Command System; 11. Know how to select and use proper specialized chemical personal protective equipment provided to the hazardous materials technician; 12. Understand hazard and risk assessment techniques; 13. Be able to perform advance control, containment, and/or confinement operations within the capabilities of the resources and personal protective equipment available with the unit; 14. Understand and implement decontamination procedures; 15. Understand termination procedures
